Work-Life Integration, Not Just Balance

Work-life balance or work-life integration?
When it comes to work-life balance, you shouldn’t focus only on time management. There’s another important dimension to consider and that is the mindful integration of skills and experiences across your work and personal lives. We all tend to compartmentalize our life and this results in the missed opportunity to learn and grow both at home and at work. Living is not just a set of rooms that we walk in and out of. By combining the skills and knowledge gained from work into our home life and vice versa, we can continuously learn and improve our full-life experience.
Here’s an obvious example. Many people go to college or trade school before starting their careers and all that essential learning is then quickly integrated into their work lives.
How about being a team leader at work? Those leadership skills can easily be applied to leading your own family. That’s how my wife and I were inspired to develop our TKLLW family principles. https://lnkd.in/gGWYwmag
Those who work in sales can definitely integrate their essential negotiation skills into everyday life. Without a doubt, I have used some of those negotiation skills with my kids 😉! I am also certain that I have used these same negotiating skills while shopping for cars over the years 🚗!
Think about it. There are many examples of how the mindful integration of skills gained at work can enhance and improve your personal life.
Pay attention to how you can integrate lessons learned across your work-life boundaries to make your whole-life even more fulfilling.
